Honda announces Type R Mugen 200 - Andrew Noakes - Motoring Writer

Honda has given its rev-happy Type R Civic a Mugen makeover ahead of the 2010 British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) season, which begins in April.

Inspired by the ultra-exclusive Civic Type R Mugen, a hand-crafted 240bhp version of the standard car of which only 20 are being made by Northampton-based Mugen Euro, the Mugen 200 edition goes on sale in April.

The Mugen 200 will feature Mugen front and rear bumpers with skirts, 19in 'Lightning' alloy wheels, and limited-slip differential, gloss black mirrors and Mugen badges. All 200 cars will be finished in Championship White.

But unlike the Civic Type R Mugen, the Mugen 200 will have the standard 201ps Type R engine. A range of performance parts will also be available, but for the moment at least, they are limited to chassis upgrades rather than engine tuning parts.

Honda will renew its partnership with Team Dynamics for the 2010 BTCC season and the works racers will carry a white and black colour scheme similar to the Mugen 200 cars.

The BTCC season begins at Thruxton on April 4.
