I've written about every make of car from Abarth to Zastava, and on topics as diverse as joint ventures, Jensen-Healeys and Jim Clark’s bottom.
Cars I've tested encompass everything from Citroën 2CV-powered three-wheelers to two-seat Formula 1 cars, and I've written technical articles, drive stories, classic car tests, consumer features, interviews and more. I've also written more than 20 books about cars, motoring and motorsport, and alongside all that I run Coventry University's unique Masters degree course in automotive journalism.
I trained as an automotive engineer then started writing technical articles for car magazines. In 1994 I joined Fast Car as a staff writer and in nine years with the same publisher rose to editor in chief of Classics, before going freelance in 2002.

My work
I write road tests and features for car magazines and websites, and car books for specialist publishers. I shoot a lot of my own pictures and have a lot of experience working with photographers to get the best out of the limited time available on a photo shoot.
Clients in media and the motor industry come to me for specialist research, consultancy and training.
