Talking cars in Coventry
Thursday, 04 March 2010
Two of the biggest names in automotive media come to Coventry on May 5 and May 6 to talk about their careers and answer questions.

Motorsport legend Murray Walker and CAR columnist Gavin Green will be appearing as part of a special ‘all-cars’ week in the acclaimed Coventry Conversations series of visiting speakers hosted by Coventry University.

Murray Walker is still the most famous voice in Formula 1. Clive James once said of him that ‘in his quieter moments he sounds like his trousers are on fire’ and his enthusiasm for the sport is as strong as ever – 61 years after his first motorsport commentary. Murray comes to Coventry on May 5 to talk about his career and gives his view of the most eagerly-anticipated F1 season for years.

Gavin Green edited CAR magazine (1987-92) and was editor in chief of EMAP’s motoring titles (1993-99) before moving into a senior PR role with Ford and later Land Rover. He is now back at CAR as a columnist and feature writer, and is one of the best-known and most widely respected of all automotive journalists. Green will be in Coventry on May 6, talking about his career in magazines and motoring PR.

Putting the audience’s questions to Murray Walker and Gavin Green will be Andrew Noakes, motoring journalist and tutor on Coventry University’s Automotive Journalism MA course.

Previous automotive guests in Coventry have included Autocar editor in chief Steve Cropley, former Top Gear presenter Sue Baker and car photographer Mike Valente. Other media guests to appear in the Coventry Conversations series include BBC director general Mark Thompson, Jeremy Paxman, Jon Snow, Peter Sissons, Donal MacIntyre, Roger Cook and many more.

Murray Walker will be speaking in the Humber Lecture Theatre, Coventry University at 1pm on May 5. Gavin Green will be speaking in room ETG34 of the Ellen Terry Building (old Odeon cinema) in Jordan Well, Coventry at 1pm on May 6. All the Coventry Conversations talks are Free to enter and open to everyone.
