Adding a (proper) 4x4 to the fleet
Friday, 03 April 2009
Now that I live in the wilds of Shropshire, and have 3.5 acres to look after, a go-anywhere working vehicle sounded like a good idea. The search took me to south Wales, where I found M304VEJ.

Defender rests near Brecon on the way to its new home

Originally I'd been thinking about an old Range Rover, but we decided that it would be more useful to have a pick-up, and that meant a Defender was the obvious tool.

The one I've found is a 1994 300Tdi. It's by no means perfect, but it seems to be solid in the right places with no significant vices, and comes with a brand new MOT.

I picked it up yesterday, and thoroughly enjoyed the 90-mile trip back to Shropshire across the middle of Wales - not least because VEJ performed faultlessly throughout.

More reflections on the new arrival follow soon.

Defender has already seen service off-road.
