Racing legend Sir Stirling Moss returned to racing at the weekend, taking part in the Silverstone Classic meeting.
At the wheel of his 1956 1.5-litre OSCA, Sir Stirling and co-driver Ian Nuthall were leading their class in the one-hour RAC Woodcote Trophy sportscar race ahead, of musician Chris Rea's Lotus 6, with just 10 minutes to go. But a gearbox problem forced the OSCA to retire from 19th position overall. “She was stuck in fourth gear and I couldn’t get it to come out," said Moss. "That’s a bit too high a gear to become jammed in. Third I could have coped with. But we were flying and I’ve really enjoyed it.” Rea and co-driver Richard Hodson went on to win the class. » Picture Gallery: Stirling Moss returns to racing
