Help!

Finding your way around

On every page you'll find two 'menus'. The first runs across the screen below the four heading pictures, and gives you access to main sections of the site - Books, Road tests, About me and so on. Click any one of these options and you'll be taken to an overview or introduction page for that section.

The second menu is on the left-hand side of the screen. This shows the contents of each section. When you switch between sections using the main menu, this sub-menu automatically updates.

Finally, if you get lost you'll find that at the very bottom of every page there is a group of links to popular and useful pages, including this help page and the site map.

PDF files

Some of the files on this site are in Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF). To view these you will need a PDF reader such as Adobe Reader, which you can download free from the Adobe website. It's available for Windows, Mac OS and other operating systems.

Web browsers and screen sizes

You may find problems viewing this site on a older web browser, such as version 4.x or before of Internet Explorer or Netscape, and you should upgrade to one of the newer browsers - most are free. I'd suggest you try one of these:

Firefox Mozilla's new browser is fast and impressive. This is now the browser I use most of the time.

Safari Apple's browser for Macs and PCs sometimes struggles to render pages correctly, but like Firefox it's very fast

If you're still a slave to tradition then you might want to look at the latest versions of Internet Explorer or Netscape.

To get the best out of your visit to this site, whichever browser you use should have Javascript enabled and should be set to display images. The site has been designed to fit an 1280-pixel display, which should mean most computers can cope. (If you're using 640x480, or smaller, you'll have to scroll around. Sorry.)
