It's not unusual to 'deliver' a book to a publisher a year after the contract is signed.

That said, some of the books I've written have been required in just a couple of months, to meet pre-planned publishing schedules. You can only do a decent job of that if you already have a lot of information to hand about the subject. Research takes time.
