An MGB roadster has been sold at auction for an eye-watering £141,922. But this is no ordinary MGB.

The red 1964 roadster, which was sold by classic car auctioneers Historics at Brooklands on June 2, is a genuine works MGB rally car which was campaigned by Abingdon in 1964 and 1965. It is the last-known works MGB rally car.

BRX854B was put into storage in 1975, and has recently been treated to what's described as a 'no expense spared' restoration. The sale price was well above its auction estimate. The car seems to have had an inglorious works competition history, which makes the high sale price all the more surprising.

The next Historics at Brooklands auction is on September 25. For more information see www.historics.co.uk.
