Tesla Roadster comes to the UK

tesla1-209Tesla Motors has launched a right-hand-drive version of its electric sports car for the UK market. The rhd Tesla also incorporates a series of upgrades including extra sound-deadening and an upgraded sound system.

Tesla's Roadster is claimed to be the only 'highway capable' electric vehicle for sale anywhere in the world. The company claims it has a range of more than 200 miles on a charge in mixed driving conditions.

"The right-hand-drive model is our response to growing demand from high-performance car buyers in the UK who are also interested in their impact on the environment," said Cristiano Carlutti, Tesla's European sales chief. "Tesla is dramatically expanding its retail footprint in Europe, we look forward to building our community of owners and fans throughout the continent."

The Roadster starts at £86,950 and is reckoned to cost about 1.5p per mile to run, compared to as much as 32p per mile for petrol-powered sports cars.
