Coventry goes car crazy - Andrew Noakes - Motoring Writer

Coventry is Britain's motor city, and it celebrates that unique place in the history of the motor industry – and its future, too – with a special event on Saturday 9 June.

Coventry Car Day, which is being organised by Coventry University, will celebrate the great cars of the past and present and will look ahead to the vehicles of the future.

Dozens of cars, many of them with Coventry links, will be on display in a mini-motor show in University Square (opposite the cathedral steps) and around the University’s new £32m student building, The Hub – which will also play host to a motor industry careers fair and symposium on the future of the car.

Already confirmed are cars from Ferrari, Lamborghini, Mercedes-Benz, Ariel, Ford, Peugeot, MG, Jaguar and Land Rover – with many more to come.

Autocar editor-in-chief Steve Cropley, a visiting professor at the University, will chair a free-to-attend Q&A session in the afternoon with a panel of automotive industry experts.

Coventry Car Day also marks the return of the annual Bugatti Lecture, which will be given by a well-known motor industry name: details follow soon.

The event will be a fantastic free day out for car fans in Coventry. It will be exciting to see some new cars fresh from the Geneva motor show, and a host of other cars vintage and modern. The careers event will be a great opportunity for anyone who wants to work in the motor industry, with free advice from automotive employers and a team from the University.
